Social Media and Hollywood have been jumpin' out the window with the blatant disregard and ignorance towards black folks recently. It started with the snubbing of Ava DuVernay's Selma from more individual awards, and bookmarked with the Seattle Seahawks Twitter account paying homage to MLK in the worst way possible! I spoke with actress and all around Jill-of-all-trades Pia Glenn about these issues and more, as we try to determine a root cause for the f*ckery!

Highlights

  • We discuss the advent of the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag in the wake of the Selma snubs.
  • The struggle of african american portrayals and representation in entertainment
  • The concept of “building our own” when we aren’t accepted by mainstream awards committees
  • Black celebrities saying stupid shyt in public and whether we should expect them to be our voice
  • #JeSuisCharlie vs. #BlackLivesMatter
  • Pia’s article covering Social Media Faux Pas when referencing black people (Looking directly at you @Seahawks)
  • Why non black people should utilize their “Ask a Black Friend” lifeline
